Wescom - Industrial electrical, controls, and general labor contractor
Wescom is an industrial electrical, controls, and general labor contractor based in Duluth, MN with additional shop and office locations in New Town and Williston, ND (Bakken oilfield), Carlsbad, NM (Permian oilfield), and Ashlands, WI. With over 160 employees operating across the five locations and a mix of industrial clients, Wescom is a key player in the industrial services market and is working to Energize America.
Wescom boasts a large client base of oil producers, pipeline companies, mining companies, utilities and other industrial clients. Their services fall within three categories of industrial controls, electrical and General Labor. Industrial controls has its largest presence here in Duluth, MN where the prefab, UL 508 panel shop, programmers, and lead automation technicians are based.
Shane Stolp is the CEO of Wescom Inc and lives in Duluth. He travels frequently to the other locations ensuring the company is continuing to follow their core values of Serving with Integrity, Building Customers for Life, Empowering People and Creating Opportunities. By following these values Wescom continues to ensure their clients are serviced in a manner that puts their production and job safety as a top priority. Shane understands the unique challenge industry faces in achieving production goals while maintaining cost controls and other conflicting priorities. Shane is driven by customer and employee satisfaction knowing that both are key to Energizing America.
Panel Shop / Manufacturing
Due to the growth of the Industrial Controls division, and especially the need from their clients for listed industrial control panels, Wescom recently purchased an office location with 20 acres and promptly built a state-of-the-art panel shop on the location just outside the city limits of Duluth. The shop allows the panels to be built more efficiently to keep up with the growing demand from all sectors they serve – mining, utilities, oil and gas, and other manufactures. This year alone they have built nearly 800 control panels. Through the added space they have also expanded their prefab offerings where they can ship out fully assembled and wired up skids, bangboards, and other electrical offerings. Plus, with their internal programming team, they can fully set up equipment and panels with programs already installed and factory tested to allow even quicker production for their clients. Calvin Blakeman, the operations president of the Industrial Controls team, boasts several years of field experience in automation and programming along with working from an apprentice into a fully licensed journeyman. “Our entire team- programmers, automation techs, prefab and panel shop techs, coordinator and foreman- have a wide variety of experience. Pulling all of our experience, education, and knowledge together to deliver a great product and/or service to our clients is what makes my job fun and rewarding.”
Local Coverage Area and Future Plans
Wescom works throughout the Twin Ports region delivering products and services including often to Hayward, WI, International Falls, Brainerd, and Silver Bay where they have a committed electrical team. Distance doesn’t stop Wescom if a client has a need as evidenced by their multiple locations. Shane Stolp envisions future growth in the Twin Ports market as they continue to make an impression on the clients in this area. “Our growth in the mining industry (Silver Bay) alone is proof that there is a need for our services. We are continuing to explore opportunities with the oil and gas companies in the area along with other manufacturers and look forward to a great 2020.”
As a leader in the industrial services market, Wescom plans further expansion from their headquarter location on the Jean Duluth Road in Duluth, MN. Serving the communities they operate in goes beyond products and labor in the field. Wescom has donated to several causes and is an active partner locally including with the Silver Bay High School, North Shore Community School, fundraisers, and other community events. In New Mexico they have partnered with Marathon Oil in building a large and expansive outdoor activity park and in North Dakota they have partnered with clean up days and sponsored the 4th of July fireworks display. “As part of our core value of serving with integrity, we take giving back seriously,” states Shane.
